Chinanu Onuoha, also known as Africaine is a 21-year-old Nigerian Afrobeat artist residing in Massachusetts, USA.
She draws her inspiration from the likes of Fela Kuti, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and more. Her passion is to merge soul and afrobeat into its own unique genre and become the next new face of African music at large.
We took some time to chat with the new artist about her debut album and asked her what sparked the idea around this song:
"I was looking for new inspiration. I had a creative block for a few months after my first single. Then I discovered T.U.C through a friend. I went out on a limb and reached out to him and he responded. He sent me some beats and I fell in love with this one!"
Her debut single “Jaiye”, is a feel good song about experiencing love for the first time. Jaiye is the Yoruba word for “enjoyment”, and that’s the feeling the song cultivates. Inspired by Fela Kuti, Africaine embodies a vintage nostalgic vibe throughout the song, using soulful elements like tribal percussion and lead guitar.
